Selfgard has a history to be proud of. It is 100% New Zealand owned and is a trusted and respected name in single use gloves and work protective clothing. Selfgard had its beginnings in a small rural office on the outskirts of Kumeu in the early 2000’s and is still owned today by Charles Kilvington who started the business. Originally set-up to service the dental market with a specially designed latex glove, other products were quickly added to the range including dental bibs.
As the brand became established, new markets and opportunities in food processing saw the range expanded into vinyl and nitrile gloves followed quickly by disposable clothing like crimp hats and bouffant hats which became the preferred hair containment products for Fonterra. Selfgard’s portfolio today consists of eight different types of disposable gloves and a huge array of disposable clothing that is used across many different industries.
Our product range is tested and approved to the world’s highest standards. We source products from top international suppliers, and every product we receive is (batch) quality tested in our market-leading PGL Lab, the only one of its kind in New Zealand. Through a vast nationwide distributor network, this enables us to offer the best quality products to the market sectors we service.
Selfgard prides itself on our great products, competitive pricing and outstanding customer service. Our experienced staff provide customers with excellent technical knowledge and commitment to drive product innovations and at the same time work together with industry specialists in creating practical, hygienic and environmentally conscious product solutions.
Our future vision for Selfgard is to be the leading sustainable product provider in New Zealand for gloves and work protection products.
You can trust Selfgard to provide protection at its best.
Created in a small office in rural Kumeu, Selfgard was created to provide Kiwis with protection at work, home, and leisure. Within three months, the first container of Selfgard latex gloves arrived in New Zealand.
After five years of rapid growth, Selfgard moved to a new warehouse to accommodate the growing inventory and expanding customer base.
Three years on, saw the establishment of a new supply chain base in the South Island to support continued growth delivered by an ever-expanding Selfgard product range.
Fast forward another five years, and we had outgrown our 'new' Kumeu warehouse. Time again for a larger site, which saw us move to our current, 10,000 sqm site in Henderson.
Selfgard became the sole NZ distributor for Aburnet, the only HACCAP approved hair containment system in the world.
Selfgard products helped to protect our essential workers and whanau, and keep businesses running. This period saw extraordinary growth for the Selfgard brand, which continues to this day.
